We are looking for an Family Support Worker

Job Title:                       Family Support Worker

Reporting to:                Executive Director

Salary:                            £15 per hour

Hours:                             Term time only and approximately 30 hours per month. This may include some occasional ad hoc evening work for ad hoc events.

Location:                        Part of this role involves working face to face with our community and these activities take place in venues within the Richmond and Kingston Boroughs.  Other aspects of the role would be delivered working from home.

The role:                    The Family Support Worker will be working directly with families who have children and young people with ADHD.  We believe that if we can support parents and professionals working with children and teenagers with ADHD, the children and teenagers will benefit from this.  As children and young people with ADHD get better support at home and in their communities (including at school), we can significantly improve the potential of people with ADHD, allowing them to flourish and be empowered to make a positive contribution to the community.

The duties:                The role will involve the following duties: 

  1. Deliver Post Diagnosis Workshops to families of newly diagnosed children with ADHD.  These workshops take place monthly and alternate between online and face to face.
  2. Meet with and support families of the ADHD Embrace community at monthly coffee mornings where you will facilitate families connecting with one another as well as being available to tell them more about our services, answer questions about ADHD and support them as required.  In addition to this you may be required to attend coffee mornings hosted by schools in the community to talk to parents about our services and give more information related to ADHD.
  3. Work closely with Executive Director to provide input on other services to support families and professionals.  This would include representing ADHD Embrace at meetings that form part of our advocacy work, and involves providing input and insights related to specific issues pertaining to ADHD.
  4. Depending upon experience, you may be required to support in developing workshops and courses on specific issues that parents and young people with ADHD have difficulty with
  5. Attend monthly team meetings in person and provide general support across the team as and when required.

Skills Required:             

  • Confident with excellent people skills, showing warmth and empathy but also maintaining good professional boundaries
  • Must be comfortable working with individuals as well as giving brief talks to groups
  • A good knowledge of ADHD or other neuro developmental conditions gained by working with children or families with ADHD would be beneficial but don’t get put off if you don’t as we can provide training
  • Strong desire or passion to help and support people with a practical mindset to help make a difference  
  • Self‐motivated and a self-starter with energy to develop the role
  • The Family Support Worker may be a parent of a neurodiverse child, or they may have in the past worked as a Family Support Worker, Social Worker, Teacher or Healthcare Professional.
