Role Overview

The Community and School Outreach Worker plays a key role in delivering ADHD Embrace’s mission by engaging directly with families, young people, professionals, and schools. This role is vital in ensuring our services continue to meet the evolving needs of our community and in building awareness and relationships across the education and community sectors.

The role is varied with different components. The post-holder will be responsible for both delivering existing services and developing new content and formats that deepen the support we offer – especially through tailored training for educators and age-appropriate, interactive support sessions for young people post-diagnosis.

Key Responsibilities

Community Support

  • Deliver monthly post-diagnosis workshops for parents and carers (online and in-person).
  • Deliver quarterly, age-specific interactive sessions for young people post-diagnosis to support their understanding and equip them with ADHD management strategies.
  • Host monthly drop-ins and meetups for parents, providing peer support and connection.
  • Develop and facilitate topic-based workshops or courses for parents and young people, based on identified needs. This may include delivery or sourcing external facilitators.
  • Attend and host webinars and seminars in the evening, including those led by guest experts.
  • Represent ADHD Embrace at internal and external events, such as family days and community forums.

School Outreach

  • Establish and maintain strong relationships with schools, making ADHD Embrace their first point of contact for training, information, and support.
  • Deliver introductory and follow-up teacher training to address specific challenges such as Executive Function, ADHD-friendly classroom strategies, and break-time management.
  • Develop and deliver tailored ADHD sessions for school-based parent groups to raise awareness and signpost support.
  • Deliver ADHD training to university students and trainee teachers.
  • Support the Executive Director in planning the annual teacher webinar programme, sourcing expert speakers.
  • Encourage schools to support the charity through donations or fundraising.

Community Engagement & Advocacy

  • Represent ADHD Embrace in local forums (e.g., Local Authority panels, SENCo support forums).
  • Proactively reach out to underserved communities to increase access to services.
  • Stay informed on trends and policy developments affecting young people with ADHD.
  • Gather insights from interactions with families, young people, and schools to inform our advocacy work and future service development.

Administrative Duties

  • Ensure training content is up to date and reflects current research and best practice.
  • Maintain clear, accurate records of school visits, events, and training delivered.
  • Contribute to internal reporting, including quarterly board reports and team planning.
  • Attend monthly team meetings.
  • Work collaboratively with the wider team to align outreach activity with overall service delivery goals.

Person Specification

Essential:

  • Minimum 3 years’ experience in a related role (e.g., teaching, healthcare, family support, social work).
  • Confident presenter and skilled communicator (verbal and written).
  • Strong interpersonal skills with empathy, warmth, and professionalism.
  • Good working knowledge of SEN and/or ADHD, including strategies, reasonable adjustments, and lived experiences – especially in education or family settings.
  • Self-starter with strong organisational and time-management skills.
  • Ability to develop content and deliver training to varied audiences.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office and online meeting platforms.

Desirable:

  • Experience working with neurodiverse young people or in a SEND-related field.
  • Experience developing and evaluating workshops or training programmes.
  • Understanding of the Richmond and Kingston education and community landscape.
