About this Event
Why might a young person fidget, withdraw, avoid an activity, become overwhelmed, seek intense movement or appear unable to follow instructions?
This practical session looks at what sensory needs young people with ADHD may experience. We will consider how one or more sensory needs can affect attention, arousal, emotional regulation and participation.
During the session, we will explore:
- How the brain filters, prioritises and responds to sensory information
- Why dysregulation can make communication, reasoning and participation harder
- Every child has their own sensory profile
- How to look for patterns in a child’s actions or emotions
- How specific support may help a young person communicate, avoid, access or regulate
- Practical ways to adapt the environment, our interaction and provide sensory support
What will participants take away?
A simple, compassionate framework for moving from “How do we stop this?” to “What might this be telling us and what support could help?”
